My name is Jackie Knox. I started excelling in athletics during high school track practice. I dominated foot races in my neighborhood and elementary school field days, competing against boys and girls. I competed at a high level in high school, the Junior Olympics, and university invitationals, winning numerous championships.
During my summer track days, my team and I hustled to raise funds for a national Junior Olympics in Gainesville, FL. Although we managed to compete, I missed out on the 100-meter dash due to a lack of support from my coach. This experience taught me the importance of preparation, having a responsible team, and the impact of financial fitness on performance.
Another pivotal moment occurred just before a high school track meet during my undefeated season in the 100- and 200-meter races. My mother had a mental breakdown and, in her anger, threw away my track shoes to prevent me from competing. Distraught, I shared this with my coach, who quickly helped me find replacement shoes at a local Foot Locker. This allowed me to continue my successful season and reinforced the necessity of a strong, supportive team.
My passion for running led me to formal sprinter training in college, where I set a new record in the Freshman Women's 200-meter dash and qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championship in 1993. I also qualified for the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Track and Field Championship in 1993 and made the US Junior Track and Field squad for Europe, though an injury and surgery forced me to give up my spot.
However, the final straw for me wasn't just my injuries. During such a vulnerable time in my life and career, my roommate decided to back out of her rental contract for the summer. This unexpected financial and personal challenge left me searching for peace of mind that seemed out of reach. During this challenging period, something new began to emerge within me.
My roommate backed out of our rent contract during a vulnerable time, adding to my stress. This led me to seek a peaceful place for my mind to rest, but it felt unattainable. However, this sparked my new desire: to ensure that if a little girl sees herself in me, she understands that financial management requires preparation, discipline, and correct thinking as a support system.
I want to introduce BORMM to you and the world as a wearable philosophy!
